The Red Arrow

I think that when it comes to dinning out the atmosphere of the establishment is just as important as the food. There are many reasons people eat out some of which may be, they don't want to cook, they want to socialize, have a laugh with friends, feel like you have shared a booth with some one famous. At the Red Arrow you can do all of that and get a great Reuben sandwich. When you first arrive at the Red Arrow there are a list of all the famous people that frequent the place on the front door. And don't be surprised if you are greeted with long line of people waiting to be sited. But what will really blow you away is that they were all smiling, imagine that, people happy to wait. Luckily we showed up right before the rush and were able to be sited right away. After sitting for awhile my wife pointed at my sit and said " look who has sat there!":

Yep, that's right I have shared a sit with the one and only Adam Sandler.
My wife on the other hand wasn't as lucky as me:

But on to more important things.

The Reuben comes on grilled rye with cored beef, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing. One thing I have learned over the years is that although some Reuben's look alike, they are not created equal. This was a great sandwich. I'm just sad that I let my wife it half of it.
Because the chef was able to combine the flavors of the sandwich in such wonderful proportions, I have to give this sandwich four stars out of five and a number three in the Top Five Reuben's of All Time. If you would like to learn more about the Red Arrow here is the link: http://redarrowdiner.com/index.php. I would recommend it to anyone.

Bessie's

My wife and I recently took a trip to Maine. We stayed in a wonderful little cottage in Ogunquit about a 10 minute walk from the beach. As usual one of my priorities was to find a local restaurant that offered a Ruben sandwich on the menu. The restaurant that I decided to go to was called Bessie's. Its located on the corner of Shore Rd and US Rt 1. Its the "Local meet and eat place." One thing I learned right away is that on the off season in Ogunquit the restaurants close early so its a good Idea to find out what their hours of operation are and plan accordingly. Something else I found was that if you want to eat something other than seafood in a seafood town, don't expect much. The corn beef and the sauerkraut were a little dry and didn't have nearly enough Russian Dressing for my taste. I couldn't really tell if there was cheese on it ether, I think it was either really thin or small. It was a decent size although I do prefer to have enough to take half home with me for lunch the next day, but to each his own. Over all I would give the sandwich one and half stars out of five and kudos for the price $6.95, not bad. If you would like to see there menu here's a link.
